Steve Jobs wrote a letter for reasons why he does not allow flash. Quite simply one reason could easily be said without all the rigmarole. Simply put Adobe was not ready with a mobile version, and when they are, Apple would have a look. However Jobs went into what he states are the “technical issues” when it still remains a business decision. Much of which on the “technical issues” most are very much like the pot calling the kettle black.

my favorite part …
my favorite part about this was that adobe’s president or vice president, whoever it was said that the majority of OS X crashes were NOT caused by flash but by OS X. are you kidding me!? since i’ve upgraded to snow leopard my macbook pro hasn’t crashed once. How many times has flash crashed, probably 50 times. SInce only flash crashes and not the entire system.

Apple is a closed …
Apple is a closed system. You are an idiot if you think differently. Even the HTML5 standard that the Apple factory wants to use for video is h.264 . This is a proprietary codec. So get a grip as you do not understand what you are talking about. Look the iphone sucks as a phone. It sucks at email compared to the competition.

@cameronscott1989 …
@cameronscott1989 from a developer side of things, there are major differences in what a developer seeks vs consumer. standards are the best route, but i have yet to see problems with slight differences in each implementation thereof, but i still push for it. basically though apple will still allow 3rd party layers but are singling out Adobe, Apple does not want to be seen doing that so the letter on all of these points came out when all they needed to say was, adobe ur not ready yet.

@cameronscott1989 …
@cameronscott1989 yes, but you watch MS will have their way with it. If they do match the standard, i will give them a big pat on the back but in the 14 years i have been doing this, they always have had their way.

Dean Hachamovitch, …
Dean Hachamovitch, Microsoft’s General Manager of Internet Explorer, cut to the chase rather quickly, by stating “the future of the Web is HTML5.” He also said that Microsoft has been “deeply engaged” in the HTML5 process with the W3C, the standards body that drafts the specifications for how HTML5 should work. The company’s Internet Explorer 9, now in beta for Windows users, features HTML5 support

Open Standards on …
Open Standards on the web is very important. This is why Apple are pushing things like HTML5 and so on. Even Microsoft are implementing it in IE9. If these open standards are used accross the board then it’ll make web developers lives a of a lot easier.

@mrbit10 Adobe’s response was pretty much “I know you are but what am I?”. They claimed all those Flash crashes in OSX weren’t Flash at all, but simply OSX (dispite the thousands upon thousands of crash reports Apple recieve every day that prove otehrwise).

I think what the …
I think what the problem here is Apple is trying to push for a standard web, one where you do not need 3rd party plugins to see 100% of it. Basically going back to the roots of the internet and the reason why it was standard to begin with.
The argument is basically systems can be proprietary and closed as long as the Internet is open and standard.
I myself am all for a standard internet without any uses of plugins to see all of it. It just makes sense.

I’m a strong …
I’m a strong believer that all platforms should attempt to support as many systems as possible. I fully support Apple in their aim towards a controlled and good-experience environment, but I also believe that Flash should be supported for those who want to use it. Whether or not Flash would be used at all on the device, it should nonetheless be supported. Steve Jobs simply had a fit, and that’s the one thing about him that makes him so drastically loved or hated, and no inbetween.

For me I could care …
For me I could care less about having flash. I would rather have a better functioning, more secure device. Flash is ow and always has been a piece of shit. People really need to get this whole closed system mindset out of their heads. Apple should not have to open anything. If they start making crap products because of it then they will fail, but they make great products. So stop whining like little bitches, especially the people who don’t even own any Apple gear, what the are you complain

The main reason …
The main reason Apple wants to use H.264 for HTML5 video’s is because of money. Apple including Microsoft holds a license for H.264, thus they get more money. It’s kewl that Apple supports it, however from what I’m hearing Apple is planning on attacking the other HTML5 video format Theora which currently is open source trying to get rid of it. The way I see it, Apple enjoys anything that is an open format as long as they control it.
