PAPER ABSTRACT:
Previous work has demonstrated the viability of applying offline analysis to interpret forearm electromyography (EMG) and classify finger gestures on a physical surface. We extend those results to bring us closer to using musclecomputer interfaces for always-available input in real-world applications. We leverage existing taxonomies of natural human grips to develop a gesture set covering interaction in free space even when hands are busy with other objects. We present a system that classifies these gestures in real-time and we introduce a bi-manual paradigm that enables use in interactive systems. We report experimental results demonstrating four-finger classification accuracies averaging 79% for pinching, 85% while holding a travel mug, and 88% when carrying a weighted bag. We further show generalizability across different arm postures and explore the tradeoffs of providing real-time visual feedback.

A friend off mine made this film back in 1997 when we were building our first two strawbale houses. It feels a bit outdated but it is a good film; specially on DVD, which you can order at frans.y@telia.com

I was thinking about purchasing a laptop/notebook and I want to know if they can do everything that a desktop computer is able to do? In the past I’ve heard that home computers are better than laptops/notebooks. So to all the computer experts please let me know the pros and cons. I’m thinking about actually going Apple for the laptop. Thanks!!
Here’s some advice Loyola gives their students:
It is a matter of personal perference. However, there are advantages and disadvantages to both. The points below are offered to help you think about which you prefer.
Laptop Advantages
Portable: Most professors will allow students to bring laptops to class. Laptops can be used inside or out, used in the cafeteria, brought anywhere, and can be taken home more easily for vacations.
Wireless Network: Some areas on campus are equipped for wireless access. This allows students to access the Internet, check e-mail, or use LOTS from thier laptop without a physical connection to the network.
All in One: It’s nice to have all computer components attached as one unit.
Less Space: A laptop PC takes up very little desk space. A desktop PC pretty much takes over your desk.
Laptop Disadvantages
Less Powerful: These days laptops are extremely powerful and usually run at speeds comparable to last year’s desktop PCs. If you are power-hungry, you can get a little more bang for your buck from a desktop PC.
Missing in Action: laptops can be misplaced or stolen much more easily than a desktop PC.
More Expensive to Repair: Often times laptops can be more expensive to repair. They are harder to work on, and since the keyboard and display are built in they are more expensive to replace.
Desktop (or Tower) Advantages
Powerful: You get more power for your money with a Desktop PC. They typically run faster, have more memory and larger drives.
Home Repair: If you’re up for reading some basic instructions, you can install new components in your own desktop PC. You can also more easily replace items that go bad. Especially easy are the keyboard and display. If you have to take the PC to be serviced, it will be less expensive than a laptop.
Desktop (or Tower) Disadvantages
Like a Rock: (Very hard to move.) A desktop PC is not designed to be moved around a lot. It is made to sit on the desk. Taking the system apart can take a lot of time, and each unit (system, display, keyboard) needs to be detached and carried.
Takes a Lot of Space: A desktop PC is typically very large and will take up a lot of room. Most people dedicate an entire desk to a desktop PC.

I was wondering, how does the computer technology causes climate change?
Mainly because most proof of global warming is done by computer modeling and the predictions for future disaster are all based on computer models that claim that CO2 warming will be amplified by other gases. Computers themselves require energy to manufacture as well as to operate and they emit heat, which may be closer to your actual point. But compared to other products, computers are not a major cause of warming.

Need ideas of new computer technologies that have yet to go mainstream. The quieter, the better. Will choose one to research and write on for an assignment.
So far I have cloud computing…
Nano technology would be my favorite.
I am looking for Solar, biological and regenerative aspects of building an economical house. I want to be independent of any major utilities since the place I plan to build is remote.
its very possible, some of the hippies around here have built houses way off in the woods so they can grow their dope in peace.
the thing is, most folks dont want to do without the modern convinces.
do u want to cut wood to heat with?
do u want to have gas, or kerosene light?
can you live w/o air conditioning?
can you live with a very small water allotment?
can u deal with a propane or kerosene fridge
basically, think of it like this,
can you live in a big camper for the rest of your life?
I am the type of person that like working with computers. Is Information Technology and Intelligence and Communications a good choice in the Navy? I need something fun and excited that have great benefits.
The ‘best’ career depends on your talents and interests. What I may consider ‘fun and exciting’ you may fins terrifying and uncomfortable. What you find ‘fun and exciting’ I may feel to be mind-numbing boredom. (And vice versa – you may choose a job that I would be terrified of.)
It all depends on what _you_ want.
Just Bored
How does one compare an apple to a sun dial? I have a car in my garage, which is pretty advanced as a car, but isn’t very advanced as a computer. I have a computer which isn’t very advanced as a car, but beats my abacus and slide rule hands down. But my slide rule makes a much more convenient straight edge. And both the slide rule and abacus are much more handy during a power outage…
So, i’m forced to conclude that the most advanced technology in the house is my piano. Even though it’s not a very convenient straight edge.

The Emotiv EPOC (www.emotiv.com) now makes it possible for games to be controlled and influenced by the player’s mind. Engaging, immersive, and nuanced, Emotiv-inspired game-play will be like nothing ever seen before. Based on the latest developments in neuro-technology, Emotiv has developed a new personal interface for human computer interaction.
