My son is taking some time off from a computer programming job and would like to keep up with current technology in the field. What is a good periodical for him to read?

For programming, try Dr. Dobb’s Journal.

We are buying an older home and though we are having the duct work and the central unit cleaned, I wanted to attach a whole house air purifier to it. UV lights-Hepa filters-electrostatic-combinations–my head is spinning! I need someone who really knows this stuff to tell me the truth. Help!!

Before you attempt to clean the air and recycle it in your home consider a central vacuum system first.

A central vacuum exhausts the air outside so as you clean the home and collect the dust, dirt and allergens, clean air is drawn into the home as the vacuum sucks all that crap and exhausts it out side. A regular vac blows that crappy air back into the room

Central vacuums are also more powerful than a regular vacuum.

Forced Hot air systems are dust collectors and are noisy… The main advantage to Forced Hot Air is that it quickly heats the air. If you told me that your furnace was old and needed work in addition to your wanting to buy Air filters I’d suggest looking into converting to another form of heat like a Forced Hot Water or Steam system. Converting the heating system will get rid of the biggest dust collector in the house.

Air Filtration:
Other than replacing the existing air filters with a tighter filter media (HEPA High Efficiency Particulate Air – filtration) an electro static air filter is worth considering. Electro static filters generate a high voltage charge on a series of plates and fine wires causing particles to collect on the plates. These do work well but do require frequent cleaning to maintain their effectivness, dirt build up on the pates which can only hold a fine layer of dust before loosing effectiveness. THe interval between cleanings will depend upon how effective your primary filtration is. Be aware of where this unit will be located as you want to have very easy access to it for frequent cleaning (as frequently as monthly in summer, less often in winter). I should also mention that tighter filters (HEPA) will also clog faster. You can extend their life by using a looser prefilter to catch most of the larger particles.

And After all of this dirt will still get by and collect in the duct work although not as quickly compared to your original system

What is extent of influence of C language? How essential is it in today’s computer and IT technology? Do you think that the inventor of C language deserves more recognition than he appreciates now?
This is not for any assignment. I am just curious about the views of experts of C.

The syntax and structure of C language influence many of the popular programming and scripting language nowadays like Java, JavaScript, PHP, Perl, and C++.
This implies that student who were taught and got a good grasp of C language will find it easy migrating to other languages mentioned above.

I’ve just commenced year 12 and need to come up with some ideas fast on any item that could do with improvement either in design or useabilty or technology. If you think of anything I would be very grateful (and so would my parents)
Thanks heaps

Clothesline….maybe some sort of mechanical thing to make it turn round when no wind.

Hi, Are Certification enough to get a decent job in the computer technology field? If so, which certification are credible? Thanks

A Certification is a great way to supplement your resume, and get additional training, but to be really competitive for the higher paying jobs you should work towards getting your IT degree, in the area you are most focused on.

My ICT homework is to find out how computer technology has changed in the last 30 years. Like whats different that wasnt there 30 years ago. Please help! thanks :)

I dont get the grade so Im not doing YOUR work…its called look it up

I found a job on Jobster.com to work for Advard Technology from home. You are paid by assignment for every one that you complete. I searched them on google and didn’t find any information saying that it was a scam but at the same time I couldn’t find an official website for Advard Technology. Has anyone here worked for them or heard about somebody working for them and getting paid? I just want to make sure they are legit before I apply for the job.

I find it funny that they can’t be found on the internet, except for job boards. I have never heard of them, but as a sohojobs.org member,I posted this to the "Is it a scam" message board which should result me an answer in the next few days.

If you are looking for a date entry position – they are extremely hard to find and most of what is on the internet is a scam.

I would love to talk to you more about sohojobs.org. Please email me at pdsmith102002@yahoo.com. They have 100’s of legimate work at home opportunities to apply to all in one place. When you email me, I may also have an answer for you.

Best of luck staying scam free!

UPDATE – I sent this to sohojobs.org and they believe it to be a scam. WAY too good to be true. Without knowing your skills and for what I saw on their website, I would agree.

The Graphics, Gaming & Simulation specialization of Computer Science Technology is designed to prepare students for entry into the world of graphics programming. Graphics and simulation is used in several segments of Information Technology, including Education and Training, Aerospace and Defense, and Gaming.

The curriculum for this specialization begins at a more advanced level than other curricula of Computer Science Technology. Prerequisites for entry into this curriculum include College Algebra and College Trigonometry.

Graphics, gaming and simulation programmers tend to push hardware and software to its limits. An introduction to Assembler is included in this curriculum, but C++ is the primary programming language. After mastering the fundamentals of C++, the student moves into advanced applications of C++ in animation programming, multi-user interface programming, advanced mathematical applications, and artificial intelligence. Tools such as Open GL and DirectX are included in this curriculum.

This degree plan ends with a Comprehensive Software Project, in which the student designs and develops a portfolio of Graphics, Gaming and Simulation programming to present to potential employers.

i am 16 nd a junior in hs, im into computers and was wondering what i need or have to require to be a computer engineer/technology. also is there any difference in computer engineering or technology
also, what do people do in computer engineering/technology? is it kind of easy to get a job in that area?

To be an Engineer requires an engineering degree or certificate. This will typically mean that you have a full understanding of a computer system (printer/network device/or otherwise) at a detailed level. You’ll have a good understanding of how a file system works on your hard drive, how messages are sent through the internet, and much more.

Computer Technology is a broader area and can be anything from network engineer to help desk support to programming to database maintenance and design.

Right now the job industry is tough and many people are choosing not to major in these fields. Engineers will have an easier time than a non-computer engineer mainly because most engineers wind up in research. One other area you may look into if you’re into computers is security. That’s a growing field right now and many people out there don’t really know what they’re talking about…mostly is guessed.

Please help me! I dont get how to do it>.<.
What the sheet says:

On the other side of tHis sheet, please explain how control technology could be used in a normal home to make life easier for the elderly or handicapped people.

Try to mention examples of exactly what could be done and how it would work. (INPUT,PROCESS,OUTPUT)

I’m one of the writers for Gilbert Guide (the foremost resource for everything senior care), and I’ve done quite a bit of research on this topic. The example of the clap-on lamp is perfect. Since it seems like this is a school project (and I don’t want to rob you of the opportunity to innovate), I’ve pasted below some useful links to help you get an idea of what’s already out there.

This website has some information on voice-speed control technology to slow down the sound of speech being heard over the phone.
http://www.sanyo.co.jp/giho/no69/data-e.html

This site gives quite a few ideas. (It’s a little hard to read some of this page.)
http://www.ntt.com/csr_e/report2005/pdf/NTT_CSRe_10_11.pdf

This is an informative site about assistive and adaptive technology.

“Using Technology to Adapt Environments”

These are just some ideas to get you thinking. In formulating a list, think of things elderly people need help with at home.

•Reminders to take medication (a system in their bedroom that reminds them upon waking up to take their medication?)
•Help keeping their heating/cooling costs down (perhaps a smart sensor that detects when they enter/leave a room so that heat is not wasted)
•Fall prevention (how can we simplify emergency response systems?)
•Activities of daily living (think of ways they can be assisted with bathing, dressing, toileting, etc without the help of a person.)

The possibilities really are endless. I suggest you spend some time reading the links I provided and doing a little cyber surfing of your own. Once you get your ideas down, if you need some help fleshing them out, I’ll be happy to assist. You can email me at info@GilbertGuide.com

The device of the flexible display allows a new concept in notebook design growing out of the traditional bookformed laptop into unfurling and convolving portable computer.
By virtue of the OLED-Display technology and a multi touch screen the utility of a laptop computer with its weight of a mini-notebook and screen size of 13 inch easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen can be also used as a primary monitor.
On top of everything else all computer utilities from power supply through the holding belt to an interactive pen are integrated in Rolltop. This is really an all-in-one gadget.

If anyone could please list me some job markets/companies that hire people who specialize in computer technology. I would really appreciate it.

In case you haven’t tried this one, check www.DICE.com. Also, check Federal government jobs (they’re spending lots of money). Hope this helps.

I work in an office and often choose to walk down the corridor to speak to people in the next room when I could just phone them, why? Because it’s more natural for us to want to speak to somebody face to face.

Besides, many people don’t want to work from home. It’s difficult enough to have a good work life balance in the finance industry when you work and live in seperate places, imagine how hard it would be if your bedroom was next to your office.
